Infotainment screen is frozen or black

Informational, low priority

radio screen not turning on · touchscreen unresponsive

Symptom description

The central infotainment or radio touchscreen is frozen, unresponsive, or displays nothing at all, even though the car otherwise runs normally.

Common causes

  • A software glitch requiring a system restart (very common and usually harmless)
  • A blown fuse for the infotainment system
  • A failing infotainment unit or its internal storage

What to check

Try a soft reset first (usually a specific button combination or disconnecting the battery for a minute) - this resolves the large majority of frozen-screen cases.

Can you keep driving?

Safe to drive - this affects convenience features, not the mechanical operation of the car, though it may also disable the backup camera on some models.
