Interior lights stay on and drain the battery

Informational, low priority

dome light stays on · cabin light wont turn off

Symptom description

The interior dome light or another cabin light stays on even after all doors are closed and the car is locked, which can drain the battery overnight.

Common causes

  • A door not fully latched, even if it appears closed
  • A faulty door jamb switch stuck in the "open" position
  • A light setting left on manually and forgotten

What to check

Check each door is fully latched by opening and firmly closing them one at a time - a partially closed door is the most common cause.

Can you keep driving?

Safe to drive, but if the light stays on parked overnight, unplug or manually turn it off to avoid a dead battery by morning.
