Power windows not working

Informational, low priority

electric window stuck · window wont go up or down

Symptom description

One or more power windows fail to move up or down when the switch is pressed, or move very slowly.

Common causes

  • A blown fuse for the window circuit
  • A worn window regulator or motor
  • A faulty window switch
  • The child safety window lock switch accidentally engaged (for rear windows)

What to check

Check if the child lock switch (usually on the driver door panel) is engaged - it disables rear window switches and is easy to bump accidentally.

Can you keep driving?

Safe to drive, though a window stuck open can be a security and weather concern until fixed.
