Turn signal blinks faster than usual

Informational, low priority

fast blinking indicator · hyper flash turn signal

Symptom description

The turn signal indicator blinks noticeably faster than normal, often called "hyper-flashing".

Common causes

  • A burnt-out turn signal bulb on that side (the classic, very common cause)
  • An incorrect wattage bulb installed (especially after switching to LED bulbs without a matching relay)
  • A failing turn signal relay/flasher unit

What to check

Walk around the car and check whether one of the turn signal bulbs on the fast-blinking side is out - this is the cause in the large majority of cases.

Can you keep driving?

Safe to drive, but fix promptly - a burnt-out signal bulb means other drivers cannot see your turn signal on that side.
