The temperature gauge climbs into the red zone, or a coolant temperature warning appears on the dashboard.
Do not open the radiator cap while the engine is hot. Once safely cooled, check the coolant reservoir level and look for visible leaks or puddles.
Stop driving as soon as it is safe to do so. Continuing to drive an overheating engine risks a warped head, blown head gasket or full engine failure.
