Coolant puddle under the car when parked

Needs attention soon

green or orange liquid under car · coolant drips on driveway

Symptom description

A colored puddle (usually green, orange, pink or blue) appears under the car after it has been parked for a while.

Common causes

  • A leaking radiator hose or a loose hose clamp
  • A leaking radiator itself
  • A failing water pump seal
  • A leaking heater core

What to check

Note the puddle color and exactly where under the car it appears (front, center, side) - this helps narrow down which component is leaking before a workshop visit.

Can you keep driving?

Check the coolant level before driving. A small, stable leak may allow a short trip, but do not ignore it - a coolant leak can lead to overheating.
