Wipers do not turn on at all

Needs attention soon

wipers not working · wiper switch does nothing

Symptom description

Moving the wiper stalk or pressing the wiper switch produces no movement from the wiper blades at all, at any speed setting.

Common causes

  • A blown wiper fuse
  • A failed wiper motor
  • A worn wiper linkage (the mechanism connecting the motor to both blades)
  • A faulty wiper switch or control module

What to check

Check the wiper fuse first (see the owner's manual) - it is the quickest and cheapest thing to rule out.

Can you keep driving?

Avoid driving in rain or poor visibility conditions until fixed - non-functioning wipers are a significant safety hazard in wet weather.
