ESC Off / Traction Control Off Light

Informational - status, not a fault

stability control off light · traction control disabled light

What it means

The driver has manually turned off the electronic stability control or traction control system, usually with a dedicated dashboard button.

Common causes

  • ESC/traction control button pressed intentionally (common when stuck in snow or mud, or for spirited driving)
  • System automatically disabled at very low speeds in some vehicles

What to do

Press the same button again to turn the system back on for normal driving. Only drive with it off intentionally and briefly, such as when rocking a car free from snow.

Can you keep driving?

Yes, but you lose the safety net that helps prevent skids and loss of control, especially in rain, snow, or on curves - turn it back on for everyday driving.
