Hood Open Warning Light

Informational - status, not a fault

bonnet open light · hood latch warning light

What it means

The hood latch sensor detects the hood is not fully closed and secured.

Common causes

  • Hood not latched all the way (secondary latch not engaged)
  • Faulty hood latch sensor
  • Damaged wiring to the sensor

What to do

Stop, open and firmly close the hood until you hear and feel it latch securely, then confirm it does not lift when you tug the front edge.

Can you keep driving?

No, not until confirmed secure - a hood flying open at speed blocks your view and can cause a serious crash.
