EPC Warning Light (Electronic Power Control)

Amber - needs attention

electronic power control light · VW EPC light · Audi EPC light

What it means

Found mainly on Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, and Skoda vehicles, this light indicates a fault in the electronic throttle control system, which manages engine power delivery.

Common causes

  • Faulty throttle body or throttle position sensor
  • Brake light switch fault (surprisingly common trigger on VW Group cars)
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor issue
  • Wiring fault in the drive-by-wire system

What to do

Have the car scanned for codes - a diagnostic tool will point to the specific sensor or circuit at fault. Reduced power or a rough idle often accompanies this light.

Can you keep driving?

Usually yes, though you may notice reduced power, a rough idle, or hesitation. If the car enters a strong limp mode with very limited power, treat it as more urgent.
