Power Steering Warning Light

Amber - needs attention

EPS light · electric power steering light · steering wheel warning light

What it means

The power steering system (electric or hydraulic) has detected a fault, meaning steering may suddenly become much heavier.

Common causes

  • Low power steering fluid or a leak (hydraulic systems)
  • Failing electric power steering motor or control module
  • Faulty torque or steering angle sensor
  • Blown fuse for the EPS system

What to do

Steering will still work but will feel much heavier, especially at low speeds and while parking. Have the system scanned for codes; on hydraulic systems, check the fluid level first.

Can you keep driving?

Yes, but be prepared for noticeably heavier steering effort, particularly during slow-speed maneuvers and parking. Take extra care in situations that need quick steering input.
