ABS Warning Light

Amber - needs attention

anti-lock brake light · ABS light

What it means

The anti-lock braking system has detected a fault and disabled itself. Normal brakes still work, but you lose anti-lock protection during hard braking.

Common causes

  • Faulty wheel speed sensor or damaged sensor wiring
  • Low brake fluid level
  • ABS module or pump fault
  • Blown ABS fuse
  • Corroded connector at a wheel sensor

What to do

Have the ABS system scanned for codes - wheel speed sensors are the most common and cheapest fix. Avoid hard braking on wet or icy roads while the light is on since you will not have anti-lock assistance.

Can you keep driving?

Yes, with more caution during hard braking, especially on slippery surfaces. If the ABS light and brake warning light are on together, treat it as more urgent and have it checked sooner.
